One of North America’s oldest rivalries was reignited Saturday night as TSM and Cloud9 faced off for the first time in 2018. And although TSM looked solid in the early game, it didn’t take long for C9 to get their game plan in order and quickly snowball a massive lead.

The contest looked to be leaning slightly in TSM’s favor during the early stages of the game after Mike Yeung’s Skarner made plays across all three lanes. However, before TSM could solidify a lead, a catch on Alfonso “Mithy” Rodriguez in the middle lane at the 20 minute mark, followed by a well-placed Trueshot Barrage from Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi onto Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, resulted in a quick Baron power play for C9.

Only a few minutes later, C9 was able to convincingly win a 3-for-0, increasing their already gluttonous gold lead to over 10,000. Nearly immediately afterwards, another team fight erupted in the middle lane, featuring a clutch Taric ultimate from Andy “Smoothie” Ta, which saved Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen’s life by a mere 200 HP. The fight resulted in a quick death for Mike Yeung, and with the TSM jungler pronounced dead, C9 was able to quickly demolish their second Baron of the game.

With all of their advantages, Cloud9 made a valiant push into the TSM base, efficiently destroying all three inhibitors, as well as winning a convincing 4-for-1 on the steps of the TSM fountain. Svenskeren was able to cap off the first installment of his redemption tour against his former team with a perfect scoreline of 2/0/7. The nexus was eventually destroyed and Cloud9 capped off the first half of their season with an enormous win, improving their record to a nearly spotless 8-1, With this win, the all time head-to-head between the two teams moved up to 35-31, in favor of Cloud9.

However, the only loss on C9’s nearly perfect record belongs to Echo Fox, the only other team to boast a record of 8-1 at this point in the season. And with the second half of the season beginning tomorrow, Cloud9 will look to gain sole possession of first place as they face off against Echo Fox for the second and final time this year.
